What to expect
Provide advanced technical support related to stainless steel processing & lead technical development in critical areas such as process metallurgy, casting, hot rolling, annealing, and pickling.
Develop new technical knowledge and initiate the development of future technologies.
Act as the process group's expert on process methods to enhance quality, reduce process times, and lower costs.
Initiate, lead, and manage projects both internally and in collaboration with universities, institutes, and external customers.
Independently create test plans and execute improvement projects.
Consistently deliver documented improvements and innovations.
Generate project ideas, establish causality relationships, and drive continuous improvements.
Follow up on current development trends and identify potential areas for innovation.
Represent Outokumpu in internal and external assignments including supplier and customer visits.


What to bring
Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
5-10 years of experience in metallurgy, particularly in casting and rolling of stainless steel.
Excellent project management skills (PMI certified or similar).
Strong analytical drive with focus on time management and risk management.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence colleagues and stakeholders.
Capability to present and communicate information effectively to both large and small groups.

YOUR ROLE

Participate in research on-site and within Outokumpu globally

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a group of 28 operators in the production of our stainless steel within the Continuous Casting department at Avesta Melt Shop. It is a highly interesting role that will put you in touch with everything from highly safe steel production and team development to continuous improvement activities and strategy work.
You will be responsible for the operations and the performance with respect to safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost, and productivity. You will be challenged to balance the daily operative tasks with long-term goal achievement and to contribute towards the evolving of our daily business operation.
To ensure that everyone gets home safe and sound every day, a focal point of this role is developing our safety culture and the implementation of safe ways of working.

Main responsibilities:
Manage the daily operations, including evaluation of activities and measurement of productivity to achieve goals within safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost, and productivity
Develop, set, and follow up on departmental and organizational goals
Together with your colleagues and your team develop work processes and technical solutions for the day-to-day management of Avesta Melt Shop
Deliver continuous improvement activities in support of key metrics
Develop and implement Outokumpu's health and safety culture and standards
Coach and develop your team to reach set goals
Work closely with the maintenance management to develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure high process reliability


About you:
We are looking for an individual who is a positive and well-organised leader with a deep interest in people and the steel industry. You know how to analyze new challenges and adapt your methods accordingly.

You can convert business strategy into action-oriented activities and make well-grounded decisions when needed. Deviation analysis, working with both short- and long-term perspectives and a continuous improvement mindset are also highly meriting.

Further qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering
Professional background in metallurgy, material technology, or similar
Strong leadership skills from recent managerial roles
Experience in the steel or heavy manufacturing industry is meriting
Lean/Six Sigma training is meriting

Dina arbetsuppgifter
Som metallurgisk kontrollant har du ett varierande arbete där du ansvarar för att bereda och analysera inkomna prover både från produktionen och från R&D. Arbetet innebär flera olika arbetsmoment och involverar olika analysmetoder, en stor del av tiden används till att studera proverna i mikroskop. Du har ett nära samarbete med företagets tekniker för att får fram bästa möjliga resultat. Samverkan med angränsande produktionsavsnitt ingår i ditt dagliga arbete.

Tjänsten är ett längre konsultuppdrag med tillsättning snarast möjligt. Arbetsformen är kontinuerligt 2-skift.


Din profil
Vi söker dig som gått ett tekniskt gymnasium eller som har en utbildning inom processteknik. Det är en fördel om du har erfarenhet från arbete i labbmiljö, pulvertillverkning eller processindustri. I den här rollen är det viktigt att du behärskar både svenska och engelska. Besitter du även god mikroskopvana anses det som meriterande.

Be responsible for group process methods related to reducing cost and time wastes, improving efficiency, quality, and sustainability of Outokumpu products and processes
Develop and follow up KPIs
Analyze data, identify discrepancies, and propose improvements
Be a process expert and lead product line projects within Avesta Works
Lead the implementation of continuous improvement strategies
Participate in research on-site and within Outokumpu globally
Report KPIs and deviations from standards as well as training operators in conducting such reports


Who are you?
We are searching for you who are interested in how sustainable thinking can be applied to the steel industry. You listen to others, but also know when to take the initiative. It is a merit if you have some experience working in the manufacturing industry, with metals, or improvement projects, but we’re open to any qualified individual willing to grow.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree of engineering, focused in relevant fields such as metal processing, material science, or mechanics
Advanced data processing/ programming skills in tools such as Matlab, Excel, C++, or similar
Working proficiency in Swedish and English languages is required
